We know it feels like SXSW 2015 happened just yesterday, but we’re already beginning to look towards next year. Mark your calendars: artist applications for the 2016 SXSW Music Festival will open on Monday, June 29.

Sonicbids will return as the official SXSW Music Festival application platform for 2016. Once you set up your Sonicbids Electronic Press Kit and apply for SXSW 2016, your band will have access to a vast network of promoters and booking agents which will enable you to look for gigs outside of SXSW.

The initial application fee will be $33. More information on application deadlines will be announced on a later date.

Each year, the SXSW Music Festival presents a great opportunity to network with industry pros and perform with thousands of artists from all over the world. More than 2,200 showcasing artistsperformed at SXSW this past March, with nearly 600 of those acts representing 62 countries outside of the U.S.

Please visit the Showcase FAQ page for more information about performing at the 2016 SXSW Music Festival, and visit our applications page beginning Monday, June 29 to apply.

Richard Mills

FEATURED #MUSICHEAD: Richard Mills is a digital video and music artist based in the northwest. When not releasing his “RAM rants” reality-show style YouTube videos, Richard is actively recording hip-hop and electronic music for a currently untitled music project and exploring his interests in fashion. Send me a message on my Facebook Page for consideration)

There is something in the industry we call A&R 2.0, and that is music tech platforms that allow unsigned artists to submit music to be reviewed by music industry professionals (often, label A&Rs) for feedback, placement (cover records), and possibly a record deal. There is typically a per transaction fee for some (Music Xray and Blaze Trax) or a subscription fee for others (Audio Rokit).

There are mixed feelings in the music industry about these type of platforms, but they do exist and more and more songwriters and artists are starting to use them.  Read More…
