The Midi Mafia Bio:
Consisting of Brooklyn native Bruce Waynne and Canadian transplant Dirty Swift, this unlikely production duo shot to prominence during the summer of 2003 as their megasmash single “21 Questions” by 50 Cent was getting radio spins across the country. Sitting on top of the Billboard charts for weeks on end with their first placement as a duo offered Bruce and Swift a unique perspective on the benefits of teamwork and also validated their individual struggles in the cutthroat world of music and entertainment. Prior to having met inside a tiny attic studio in a Brooklyn neighborhood while working with the same artist, former indie rapper Bruce Waynne and ex-Canadian Champion DJ Dirty Swift were on seemingly parallel paths to success but both looking for the missing ingredient that would become their tipping point. Says Swift of their partnership, “we both do the same thing but we approach it from different perspectives and it allows us to focus on our strengths.” As the single “21 Questions” shot up the charts in the summer of 2003, it was clear they had found the magic formula they had both been striving to create and The MIDI Mafia was born.
Since then, The MIDI Mafia has been one of the most consistent and influential production teams in the industry both through their production and also in their various entrepreneurial endeavors. Bruce and Swifts names have appeared on the credits of over 30 million albums sold, and The MIDI Mafia has had 3 #1 Billboard singles including “21 Questions” by 50 Cent, “When I See U” by Fantasia, and “Hold It Don’t Drop It” by Jennifer Lopez. They have also produced and written for Justin Bieber, John Legend, Brandy, Cee Lo, Lil Wayne, G-Unit, JLS, Connor Maynard, Childish Gambino, and recently won a Grammy for their work with groundbreaking artist Frank Ocean. The MIDI Mafia is known for sonic quality and versatility, as Bruce Waynne notes “we have a wide scope of artist collaborations from different genres and we might be the only producers in the world with both debut albums from 50 Cent and Justin Bieber on our discography.”
The MIDI Mafia is also heavily involved with film and TV ventures, landing music placements in an extensive list of television shows and movies including the soundtracks for Sony Pictures “Sparkle”, Bieber’s biopic film “Never Say Never”, and scoring in “What To Expect When Your Expecting” and “The Winning Season” for Lionsgate. They have also appeared as cast members on MTV’s “The Electric Barbarellas”, VH1’s “Love and Hip Hop” and are featured in the MTV2 show “Jobs That Don’t Suck” for which they also composed the theme song. The MIDI Mafia has even ventured into artist territory, releasing 2 successful EPs through the MTV/Extreme Music/SonyATV “Hype Music” platform and were featured on the Jersey Shore Soundtrack with their song “Last Call” through Universal Republic. They have also amassed a large YouTube following through their “PHamous” campaign for Planet Hollywood Vegas, and other new-media marketing campaigns with Cosmopolitan Magazine, Nivea and Caesars Entertainment.
The MIDI Mafia’s latest venture is a new music multimedia platform called Brand X Networks. Already being dubbed “record label 2.0” by industry insiders, Brand X is a curation of new and upcoming talent, presented on a variety of MIDI Mafia driven production with the sonic excellence that has become their signature. Along with music, the hub of the Brand X platform is centralized around the Brand X Networks Channel on YouTube with visual content and programming along with music downloads and merchandise. The first project released through the platform is the “Brand X – Get Connected” album, featuring Brand X artists Mucho Deniro, the all-girl group Jazmin Sisters, and affiliated talent such as MMG’s Rockie Fresh, Canadian female rapper Honey Cocaine, and Grammy-winning songwriter/artist Eric Bellinger. With the lead single “Do 4 Love” featuring Eric Bellinger already impacting radio and clubs on the West Coast, the BrandX – Get Connected album will be a part of everyones playlist in 2013. #BRANDX #GETCONNECTED
